Chariot Racing in Gym

In gym our class has been working on the ancient Greek Olympics. We've done foot racing, arm and leg wrestling, standing long jump, discus, and chariot racing. For the chariot racing we used rugs and harnesses  that Mrs. Taylor got for an Iditarod reenactment and we had one rider and four or five "horses". We were in four city-state teams, Sparta, Athens, Corinth, and Argos.

The winning team from the first race was the
Corinthians.

6th Grade Math

Last week, the week of the 18th, the sixth grade worked on a problem in math called Land Sections. Below are some examples of the diagrams we made in partnerships when trying to figure out the fraction of land each person owned. Each section was one square mile, 640 acres. One of the strategies was to measure each person's land in thirty- seconds or Krebs. Another strategy was to measure with other people's sections of land. Sage and Malcolm did the first strategy and Henry did the second strategy.

Emily Dickinson

For the past month we've been studying Emily Dickinson. We started our study by watching Ms. Klein's introduction (shown below). Ms. Klein showed us pictures of Emily Dickinson, her family, and home. We  learned about her life, and read some of her 1,789 poems. We also decoded a few of her riddle poems and a poem in her handwriting. Each of us memorized a poem by Emily. Ms. Klein made us a special treat of Emily's original gingerbread. Here is a link to the recipe:
          http://www.emilydickinsonmuseum.org/ed/files/education/Emily_Dickinsons_Gingerbread.pdf.
We visited her house, the Homestead, and her brother's house, the Evergreens, at the end of our unit.
Below is the poem we decoded. Feel free to print it out and try solving it.
